Science journalism in a global pandemic

English Track

Desciption

The “infodemic” of fake news and research preprints has posed considerable challenges to science journalists around the world. This session will look at the state of global science journalism in 2021.

This panel will look at the initiatives of the World Federation of Science Journalists; preliminary results of the Global Science Journalism Survey 2021, run by SciDev.Net, the Brazilian Institute of Public Communication of Science and Technology, London School of Economics and Lisbon University Institute (ISCTE-IUL), with partnership of the World Federation of Science Journalists; and data from the GlobalSCAPE, an EU funded project that has as objective to generate a detailed picture of science communication in a global context, will also be shared in the session; GlobalSCAPE is an initiative joining Trinity College Dublin, Universiteit Leiden, Ecsite, Qualia Analytics, SciDev.Net and Springer Nature.
