Underreported issues in the season of Covid-19: Rebooting coverage in Sub Saharan Africa

English Track

Desciption

The Covid-19 pandemic has exposed the need to incorporate new strategies in the reporting of underreported issues around the globe. In Sub-Saharan Africa, issues of biodiversity, water, and environment are gaining much ground and are becoming more prominent. However, most stories need sizzling up during the time of the pandemic, and more reporters need to adopt the beat. In my assessment, reporters that were already on the beat seemed to thrive during the pandemic. How can the capacity of reporters be developed to adopt beat reporting? How can the science journalism community come on board and assist? How can coverage of important issued be rebooted?
