Defending Media and Academic Freedoms in Asia amid COVID-19

English Track

Desciption

More than 18 months into the COVID-19 Pandemic, we have not only been witnessing and experiencing spikes in cases and deaths, but also a proliferation of human rights violations in varied scales and forms. Moreover, the creation and publication of data and critical thought have been gravely affected by policies aiming to suppress viral infections and restrict social, economic and political activities. This panel aims to highlight challenges faced by the press and academics in light of problemating, creating and disseminating critical information/knowledge on the ground. This one-hour session seeks to set the tone for discourses and actions in advancing Science Journalism, particularly in the Global South.
