Esther Nakkazi is a science and technology reporter based in Kampala, Uganda, and the founder of the Health Journalists Network in Uganda (HEJNU -www.hejnu.ug). She is also a media trainer, mentor and blogger. She is a graduate of Makerere University in Uganda and has a post-graduate degree from the Uganda Management Institute. She won a Knight Science Journalism Fellowship to spend the 2007-08 year at Harvard and MIT in Cambridge, and was a journalist in residence at the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp in 2016. She is also a 2020 Chevening Africa Media Freedom Fellowship fellow.
Esther is a champion of science journalism and has contributed a chapter ‘Reporting local science in the Global South to the book ‘A Tactical Guide to Science Journalism’ Lessons from the Front Lines.
She has won various awards and her work appears in the EastAfrican newspaper, Science for Development Network (scidev.net), The Lancet, University World News, CancerWorld.Net, Nature Africa, Scientific African etc.
