Start your science journalism career from a remote part of the world

English Track

Desciption

It’s simple and convenient for people to begin their writing careers in places like the USA or the UK where resources are plentiful. However, if you live in a location like Nepal, where resources are scant and nobody guides you on the journey, how do you begin? In this talk, I will give an account of how I got involved in science journalism, and how conferences such as Science Journalism Forum helped me establish connections and look for job opportunities.

I believe this will be valuable to a lot of people from Asian and African countries where opportunities are not so obvious. My session will focus on essential basic steps in starting a journalism career, the importance of taking part in conferences and networking opportunities, volunteering for opportunities to finally getting paid for your work. It will be a how-to guide from a beginner to a professional science journalist.
