About Laura Helmuth

Laura Helmuth is the editor in chief of Scientific American. She previously worked as an editor for The Washington Post, National Geographic, Slate, Smithsonian, and Science magazines.

She is a member of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine’s standing committee on advancing science communication and an advisory board member for SciLine, Spectrum and 500 Women Scientists. She is a past president of the National Association of Science Writers.
