50 ways to tell a story: why young people crave innovative science storytelling

English Track

Desciption

It sometimes seems like journalism has evolved to favour a handful of formats: articles, (audio)visual stories, radio and podcasts. But isn’t it strange that, while our lives have changed dramatically to include many hours of online engagement, journalistic storytelling approaches have lagged behind? Young adults, who are curious and imaginative, were raised in this fast-paced, online environment. And they crave science stories that keep up with the rest of the internet without giving in on quality.

So let’s imagine more and more creative ways to reach and include them, perhaps asking ourselves the question: if science were a cool brand, what would it look/sound/feel like? The session will kick off by providing the audience with the needs/interests of young audiences, ways to address these issues through multidisciplinary and multimedia approaches, and examples of innovative (science) storytelling.

During the second part, I would like to include the audience in providing cases and examples from their work, and workshop creative solutions through participative engagement and an iterative brainstorming exercise.
