Craft of Pitching

English Track

Desciption

Ideas are a science journalist’s currency. And the pitch (also known as a query or story proposal) is the vehicle for those ideas. A pitch is a concise, pithy email intended to convince an editor to give you an assignment. In this workshop, you’ll learn the seven key components of a winning pitch. We’ll talk about some of the most common mistakes freelancers make when pitching, and how to use pitches to build relationships with editors. You’ll also have a chance to ask all your burning questions. I recently helped create this free, self-directed master class on pitching for The Open Notebook, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to help science journalists improve their skills.
