This session is an interview with Professor Jairo Lugo-Ocando, Dean of the College of Communication at the University of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates. He is a renowned expert in science journalism, having studied it in different contexts and regions, including the Arab region, Latin America, and Europe. He recently co-authored a book titled Science Journalism in the Arab World: The Quest for ‘Ilm’ and Truth. In this session, we will listen from Dr Lugo-Ocando how science journalism in the Arab region compares to other regions of the world. We will also discuss the challenges that science journalists face in the region and how, in his perspective, the field of science journalism could be improved. Additionally, we will try to get a glimpse of how Dr Lugo-Ocando sees the future of science journalism in the different Arab countries.
