About Birte Faehnrich

Birte Fähnrich is a senior policy officer at the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and an adjunct professor for Communication Theory at Freie Universität Berlin. Before, she had a position as scientific coordinator of an interdisciplinary research group at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities that dealt with issues of quality assurance in digital science communication. Moreover, she was a prinicple investigator in the Horizon 2020 funded project RETHINK.

Being a communication scientist by training, she received a postdoctoral qualification (Habilitation) from Freie Universität Berlin and a doctoral degree from Leipzig University. Her research interests encompass strategic communication at the intersection of science and politics, digital science communciation, and evaluation. Birte is the co-editor of two important German handbooks on science communciation and of several special issues in the field.
