About Islam Hussein

Dr. Islam Hussein is a virologist and science communicator. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge, UK. After his postdoctoral training, he joined the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as a research scientist. Currently, he is a Senior Scientist and Principal Investigator at Microbiotix, a biopharmaceutical company based in Massachusetts, where he leads several research projects focused on the discovery and clinical development of antiviral drugs. In 2014, he launched “VirolVlog”, a YouTube channel communicating the science of virology to the general public in Arabic. His channel has gathered approximately 45K subscribers and close to 500K views so far. His work was featured on Science magazine, ASM’s Culture magazine and American Scientist. He was listed by Nature Middle East as one of top 5 science communicators to follow in the Arab world.
